Theme 1: Adventures of the Winter Soldier(s)

In 1945, Steve Rogers trades himself to the Red Room in exchange for the Winter Soldier. They accept his offer, but don't let Bucky go. After all, their supersoldiers come as a matched set.

Faster Sugarplum, Kill! Kill!  by meh_guh, E (Bucky Barnes/OCs). It's 1959 and the Winter Soldier has been woken to perform an act of corporate espionage. His cover? Primo Ballerino with the Bolshoi's first performance in the West.

Theme 2: Getting Reacquainted

Theme 4: Steve De-Serumed

an act of easy mercy by magdaliny , E (Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes). Steve gets de-serumed, which is the catalyst for a change in the direction of his career and his relationship with Bucky.

Theme 5: Trans Bucky

I Still Remember by redsteele, T (Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes). Bucky is 10 years old and still going by Jane. She hates wearing skirts and she hates wearing dresses and she hates her name. There’s just something so uncomfortable about people looking at her and calling her “a pretty little lady.”

American Son; or Bye Bye, Blackbird by basset_voyager, T (Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes). Kate Bishop @notthehawkguy tons of AMAZING women served in WWII but I don't think James Barnes was one of them. Clearly Barnes wanted 2 live & B remembered as male. Cap still refers 2 him that way long after his death. Think I'll take my cue from that.

Theme 1B: Bucky and Clint try to be bros

With My Head And Hands  by aeolian , T (no romantic relationship). If you read Tales of Suspense #100 and wanted more of Clint and Bucky being disasters together, this is the fic for you.

Theme 2: Slightly More Serious

She said it calmly, so Bucky didn’t immediately go flying out of the apartment to tear apart the Tower in search of Steve. He felt, abruptly, exhausted. “What is it?” “The witch kept ranting about sexual repression and archaic moral principles,” she continued blithely.

If we can’t track down and subdue a frith—um, small Asgardian mammal, then nobody can,” Steve says. He tries to look reassuring. It must not be working. She’s still looking around like it might pop out at any moment.

Theme 2: Modern-Day Fluff

Bucky then replies to every goddamn tweet asking him to confirm it with a different dirty euphemism. Things escalate from there.

if the bad times are coming let ‘em come  by suzukiblu, E (Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes, shrinkyclinks). So listen, this is a little more explicit than I normally rec but I just really love this fic. I think the tags say it best: Steve Rogers is not a virgin; but the Winter Soldier kind of is.

Take Your Time Coming Home  by odetteandodile , M (Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes). Steve pines for Bucky without even knowing he's pining for Bucky thanks to a series of letters and an unusual roommate arrangement in 1930's Brooklyn.

Theme 5: Modern-Day Non-Fluff

I’ll Be A Thorn In Your Side  by th_esaurus , M (Steve Rogers/Brock Rumlow). Steve and Brock are fuck buddies, prior to the events of CATWS.

The Age of Accountability  by lauralot , G (no romantic relationship). Steve and Natasha track down the traitorous STRIKE team members, but they’ve turned into children. Interesting examination of the nature vs. nurture debate.
